For 3 weeks now I've been struggling to say the least.
ive got a BBC 489cid 10:1 motor. New sniper EFI, 6A digital, MSD RTR 8360 dist, Blaster SS coil Auto Meter monster tach in a '55 Chevy.
1: I've got the distributor locked out and the MSD phaseable rotor set at 15 degrees before top dead center.
2: MSD ready to run 8360 ( modified so that the magnetic pickup wires come out of the bottom of the distributor with a 2 pin connector and then back into the distributor to the motherboard so that I have both options of ready to run or magnetic pickup. I have this distributor in both configurations both with and without a 6A for years. Both with MSD Blaster SS coil.
Both configurations worked flawlessly, and I love the fact that it's got the Rev limiter. So I know it works both configs.)
3: fuel press @ 65lbs +/- at rest.
4: 3/8' return fuel line.
5: i have tested the coil and the mag p/u several times for compliance.
6: full 13V battery.
7: power at junction block feeding is consistent.
8: I want timing control but at this point want either.
9: verified mag P/U wires are all purple to purple and green to green.
10: MSD 6A is digital.
11: while using the mag p/u i changed the software settings for the dwell and inductance etc. as your forums suggested.
12: rev limiter verification setting in dist was off. 6A Digital has none that I'm aware of.
At first I used the 2nd wiring diagram on pg. #18 in manual. I hooked up my Ready-To-Run distributor with the magnetic pickup 2 pin connector to my EFI and the EFI white wire to the 6A white wire, (also tried 6A tach out to EFI white wire.) The brown wire from the sniper to my tach (also tried 6A tach wire to tach.)
The second setup (pg. #10 quick setup. vague at best.) I hooked up my Ready-To-Run distributor with the magnetic pickup 2 pin connector to my 6A, with 6A orange and black to coil, EFI 2 pin mag p/u to grey tach adapter wire via purple adapter wire. The brown wire from the sniper to my tach.
This last time I tried taking the 6A out of the equation (and unlocked the distributor timing with rotor at 0). using the Ready-To-Run straight to the MSD blaster. (orange to neg. And red to positive with black to ground. and supplied 12V to positive side of coil.) EFI yellow wire negative side of the coil with and the brown wire to my tachometer. (No literature stating that the yellow wire cant hook to the coil that I can find.)
I haven't had it running long enough to attempt to use a timing light yet but the distributor is as close as it's going to be visibly. I've tried 8 or 10 different configuration files I've also tried different settings within all of them and all of them have severely flooded my motor to the point of hydrolocking ruining my starter and causing me to replace my oil twice. In total about 3 gallons of gas has been used without starting for more than 10 sec. the first setup was the closest yet. I'm ready to scrap this whole thing. any ideas? cant find any more options.
MY QUESTION REALLY IS THIS: I'M AWARE THAT THE 8630 ISN'T COMPATIBLE WITH THE SNIPER SO WHY ISN'T THIS IN WRITING? AND THE WHITE AND YELLOW WIRES GOING INTO THE EFI IS EXPECTING A CERTAIN TYPE OF SIGNAL, 12V SQUARE WAVE?
